CREATIVE STRATEGY

Golden Dome Rebrand

Golden Dome is a non-profit group dedicated to studying the relationships between mysticism and the arts. I oversaw a rebranding of the organization, in collaboration with its founder Eliza Swann.

I removed “School” from the name since they had expanded to also be a foundation and curatorial platform. Previously, logos and type representing the organization varied widely — I developed a new wordmark, lettermark, logo rendered by illustrator and designer Samantha Rehark. Golden Dome’s first style guide and social templates were born, resulting in a more authoritative and focused look for an unconventional institution.

All of the Art at
The New York Times

I spent a year curating the art on display in the New York Times headquarters. I art-directed a series of 18 foot-wide collages titled “All the Stories” by Najeebah Al-Ghadban that showcase the breadth and depth of The Times’ journalism. I dug into the history of advertising the Times and created a permanent exhibition that includes works by titans like Andy Warhol, Ludwig Bemelmans, and Lou Silverstein and tracked down proto-feminist ads that targeted women in the 1940s. Overall, the endeavor was wide-ranging and included designing wayfinding systems, selecting photography from a vast collection, working with art conservationists, commissioning custom-designed furniture, and working with MoMA to recreate a series of subway posters from the 1950s for the newsroom entrance.

This project was completed in collaboration with Raoul Anchondo, Kelly Doe, Steven McElroy, Doug Padgett, David Dunlap, Jeff Roth, Tom Bodkin, and others.

Urbit

Urbit is a personal operating system that runs on peer-to-peer applications. I collaborated with founder Galen Wolfe-Pauly to visualize the inner workings of the network. We devised graphics, movement, and sounds to give Urbit’s code a unique personality and created a video that, allegedly, has caused programmers cry at the wonders of Urbit’s architecture.

Cinema COBRA

Cinema COBRA is a film and performance curatorial platform inspired by the C.O.B.R.A. painting movement from the 1940s. Its mission is to free video art from its often stale surroundings, liberating it from blank walls and institutions.

I hosted thirteen original programs in New York City and Copenhagen, all with a focus on unconventional approaches to cinema and showcasing work by underrepresented voices. Through an initiative called “curating curators” many different artist communities began to overlap and connect through COBRA. Standout moments from the series included: Calder Singer launching a cinematic fragrance that smelled like a blood moon, Riitta Ikonen installing an entire fleet of handmade ships created out of refuse in the Rockaways, muthi reed recruiting the whole audience to sing as the soundtrack to their film, Jen Liu and Arley Marks creating a Soylent cocktail to accompany videos about milk plastic, and countless premieres of experimental films.

Cinema COBRA is currently on hiatus but may awaken at some point.

BAGGU

BAGGU makes simple, intentional accessories for everyday use. For several years, I lead BAGGU’s custom and collaborative product division. I formed partnerships with companies like Corso Como, Apple, Herman Miller, Urban Outfitters, Madewell, GAP, and Hudson Bay to create hybrid designs. I oversaw all stages of product creation: from design development to factory production to distribution. I also produced a holiday promotion on how to use BAGGU as an eco-friendly alternative to wrapping paper.
